mHashup at SIGGRAPH 2008

mHashup was presented at SIGGRAPH 2008, from August 11th to August 15th, in the category of NEW TECH DEMOS.

  • about 30-40 demos per day to audiences averaging 6-12 people

  • presentations made to representatives from, amongst others:

    • Microsoft

  • excellent response overall, enthusiasm about potential applications

SIGGRAPH 2008 user feedback

  • frequent requests for access to the application, either on the web or as a download

  • general excitement about the ability to detect copyright infringement in the music and film industries

  • feedback from composers working in the Hollywood and advertising industries: an essential tool for testing new compositions against existing music

  • potential of the application when combined with social networking

  • use of the application in conjunction with large-scale music file and music data management

  • requests for a beat similarity version (a beat extract for fftExtract has been completed by BenFields, tests in progress)

  • many suggestions of testing a particular old composition against a new one identified as being "remarkably similar"

  • questions about potential applications with film and video

  • excitement about being able to discover new artists

  • requests for a downloadable plugin

  • suggestions of use when editing and compiling music for film and media

  • a variety of usability CaseStudies were derived from conversations with potential users
