Last.FM - makes recommendations and creates playists and stations based on 'scrobbling', a process that records your listening habits and sends this into to a server. the site's player is open source and the Audioscrobble Web Services API is open, potentially useful for OMRAS2 research?
MyStrands - also for recommendations, playlists, and social networking, includes an open developer interface called openStrands
Goombah - recommendations and social networking, streaming of recs via ad-based Napster
Slacker - some social networking w/ a focus on music recommendation, doesn't work in UK
Tangerine! - this playlist generation seems to be the thing. This one is based around an iTunes plugin and color. interesting interface with 'drawable' playlists.
Music IP - content-based music search engine technology for license, based in LA
Gracenote Discover - music recommendation by the CDDB people. uses a combo of music experts, DSP, and music community info

Islands of Music - This system was basically Elias Pampalk's PhD. Basically the first system to think about intuitive interfaces to collection exploration and based on extracted metadata (at least partially)
Brain Tuning - an international collaboration investigating the processing of music in the brain - authors of the MIR Toolbox
