Environmental sound analysis

One of the potential uses of mHashup is to match different types of environmental sound. Research has already been conducted by Oliver Bown, whilst at Goldsmiths, using AudioDB in conjunction with his own Java front-end application. In a piece of public performance, Oliver matched a variety of environmental sounds and found similarities between birdsong and drills.

Environmental sound is crucial in the description of the 'atmosphere of a place'. It is possible that places with what we describe as 'good atmosphere' have something in common. mHashup can be used for this type of research, and expanded to include references to location, type of landscape/configuration, and origin of sound.
